About Spatial Probe

Hi, I'm Alex! By day I'm a scientist and developer working with meteorological and climate data. I've always loved digging into the stories that geospatial data can tell if you look closely enough. That curiosity is what led me to build the tools you'll find here, I hope you enjoy using them to explore as much as I have!

Explore and Photos apps

A 3D globe for wandering the planet in real terrain and imagery, layered with fascinating data, among others, Wikipedia points of interest, United States Geological Survey (USGS) earthquake activity, and Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) records. A community app to showcase and share your media* -- geotagged photos and short videos that can be organised in collections or made into journeys by adding GPS tracks.

* You choose the license for each public upload -- from Creative Commons (anyone may reuse, including commercially, with credit) to all rights reserved (viewable here, not reusable elsewhere). Keep any upload private if you'd rather not share it at all.

Each app stands on its own, but they're built to work together -- a photo can anchor a place on the globe, a journey can retrace a real trip.

Both are actively, constantly developed -- new layers, datasets, and features ship regularly, not a fixed feature set frozen at launch.

Why a subscription?

I've built these tools with zero tracking and no ads, and I'd like to keep it that way. A subscription is what makes that possible -- it covers hosting costs and the time I put into building and maintaining everything. Your data is never shared with anyone, ever. I'm genuinely glad to have you here -- sign up, sign in, and enjoy!
